From ICC member Tim Horn: I am Extremely excited to tell you guys about how I'm spending my spring break. I'm doing a service trip through OSU's Buck-I-Serv. I landed a spot to go to Vian, Oklahoma to help build a ramp for the local elderly. Very blessed for the opportunity to represent my school in such a positive way! I had a lot of fun representing OSU through service that partnered with Cherokee Nation. I would like to extend my gratitude to everyone from the church that we stayed in for housing us, to Cherokee Nation for being so thoughtful all the way through. Everyone was extremely welcoming to us visitors. Very gracious for the opportunity to do some of the coolest volunteer work for a week! Tim is the son of Sally and Chris Horn of Bridgeport OH.

Many times the church is there for the community it serves in times of need. The ICC has now been blessed by the community, being there when the church itself needs help. After a break-in of the church, a fundraiser was started to raise money to replace an unsafe and insecure door leading to the upstairs of the Church. The Wheeling Island Community Association, who holds their winter meetings at the ICC, heard of the break-in and need for a new door. At their February 28th meeting, a check for $200 to the church to help with the purchase of a new door. A heart felt THANK-YOU from the ICC members to the Association for their generous gift! Two beautiful gifts were presented to the Island Christian Church during service today. A hand painted angel was presented by The Mayer Family in honor of Brenda Mayer's grandmother Thelma Butterworth. The Mayer & Toland families presented the church with a new framed photo of Jesus to be hung at the Communion Table (seen in the photo behind the family members). We thank both families and the ICC is truly blessed with such dedicated and loving members. (March 12, 2017)

PSALM SUNDAY

COATS COLLECTION

Sunday, March 29, 2015, Psalm Sunday Service. The ICC will be taking donations of gently used and/or new coats and jackets that will then be laid at the foot of the cross as part of our Psalm Sunday Service. Once the service is over the donated jackets and coats will be collected up and then donated to The House of the Carpenter.

There are many people in our area who are in need of someone to help them.  Sometimes the need is created by circumstances beyond their control and at other times the need is caused by choices that have been made.  Regardless, there is a that need, especially during the bitter cold winter months.

We are asking all church members to bring a coat or jacket with them on Palm Sunday. For those who cannot make a donation in person please call Elder on Call that is on the main page of this website.

SUMMER 2015 OUTREACH PROGRAM

MAY 3, 2015 TO AUGUST 23, 2015

LET'S HELP THE FURBABIES!

OHIO COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER

It is that time of the year when so many animals end of up at shelters all across the country. Locally, the Ohio County Animal Shelter is no different. They depend on donations and adoption fees to help fund the needed supplies to properly care for the animals in their care. The ICC has, in the past, made the shelter a part of their Outreach Programs, and this year is no different. From May 3, 2015 to August 23, 2015 we will be taking up donations of the following items (but not limited to):

  • Dog/Cat Food (wet & dry)

  • Toys (chewy, ball, etc.)

  • Beds

  • Bowls

  • Bleach

  • Grooming Items

  • Blankets/towels

  • Collars (flea/regular)

  • Leash (dog & cat)

All the items are always needed and needing to be replenished.

If you would like to make a monetary donation on behalf of the ICC you can put it in an envelope marked “ANIMAL SHELTER” and drop it into the collection plate on Sunday. You may also give the donation to our Outreach Committee Chairperson Susan Toland and she will include that when it is time to take all the collected items to the shelter in August. If you would like an Animal Shelter Outreach flyer, CLICK HERE.

LET’S MAKE THIS A COLLECTION THAT WILL REALLY HELP THE COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER THROUGH THE TOUGH WINTER MONTHS!

FALL FOOD BASKET

September 6 to November 22, 2015

The ICC Outreach is now collecting non-perishable food items to benenfit the St. Luke's Church food pantry. St. Luke's church has been a cpermanent fixture on Wheeling Island even after a fire ravaged the building. Thei food pantry serves many of the Island residents who at times in their lives do not have the means to provide food for themselves. St. Luke's also each Christmas morning, provides a breakfast for all who come as well as a Christmas party for all the children. Through donations of toys and other children's items, such as warm hats and gloves, Santa Claus ensures that no child leaves without his or her special Christmas Gift. Donations for the food pantry can be dropped off at the Island Christian Church any Sunday morning before 11:00 am. You can also contact the Elder on Call or use the "CONTACT US" button on the home page of this website. You can also contact St. Luke's Church Facebook Page.

CRAZY CHRISTMAS GIFT EXCHANGE PARTY

December 21, 2014

It's that time of year.... when some of the wackiest and unique gifts are exchanged. The ICC annual Crazy Gift Exchange and Christmas Party!! Everyone who wanted to participate brought a gift with a value of $10.00 or less. Each person then drew a number from a hat to determine when they would come up to select a gift. Of course, there is always the option to "Steal" a gift that has already been selected! It was a wonderful time for everyone. The church provided pizza and drinks for the event. A very Merry Christmas and Happy New year to everyone!
